How Pet XP Works in Grow a Garden

Pets in Grow a Gardengain XP passively when assigned to active crop plots. The amount of XP earned depends on the pet's species-specific XP/hour rate, which varies significantly by rarity. A Prismatic Fairy earns 50,000 XP per hour, while a Common Cat earns only 80 XP per hour. This massive difference is why higher-rarity pets level up so much faster.

Each level requires the same amount of XP as the pet's XP/hour rate. For example, a Dragon (2,000 XP/hr) needs 2,000 XP to gain one level. This means leveling from 1 to 100 requires 99 × 2,000 = 198,000 XP, which takes approximately 99 hours of active farming. In contrast, a Fairy (50,000 XP/hr) would take only about 7 minutes to gain one level.

The Age 50 Milestone

Reaching Age 50 is the single most important milestone in pet development. At Age 50, every pet unlocks its mutation ability, which applies a value multiplier to crops the pet is assigned to. This transforms your pet from a passive XP source into an active crop-value booster.

Different pets have different mutation abilities. The Dragon's Fire Breath provides a 150% crop value multiplier, while the Phoenix's Rebirth Flame provides 165%.   • Keep your pet active — Pets only gain XP while assigned to a plot. Never leave your pet idle in inventory.
  • Use XP-boosting pets — Pets like Night Owl and Wolf have abilities that boost XP gain for nearby pets.
